Harcros Chemicals is a leading manufacturer and distributor of industrial and specialty chemicals serving customers across the United States. With a large and expansive campus in Kansas City, KS, Harcros operates multiple facilities spread across a wide footprint, each playing a critical role in production, storage, and distribution. Because of the nature of its business and the materials handled on site, safety and security are not just priorities, they are essential components of daily operations.
Over time, Harcros recognized that its existing alarm notification and surveillance systems were no longer keeping pace with modern security standards. The legacy infrastructure had become antiquated, difficult to maintain, and limited in its ability to support advanced monitoring and emergency communication needs. With a growing campus and increasing operational demands, Harcros needed a more reliable, scalable, and future-ready commercial security solution.
To address these challenges, Harcros partnered with TSI Global (formerly Sound Products), a trusted provider of integrated security and communication systems. The goal of the project was to modernize the entire campus security infrastructure by converting outdated systems into a digital, network-based platform capable of supporting emergency notification, paging, and high-definition video surveillance.
The primary objective of the project was to implement a comprehensive commercial security system that would improve situational awareness, enhance emergency response capabilities, and provide a reliable communication backbone for the entire campus. Specifically, Harcros required:
A campus-wide digital emergency notification and paging system.
Migration from analog surveillance cameras to high-definition IP cameras.
A fiber optic network to support high-speed data transmission between buildings.
A scalable system that could grow alongside future campus expansions.
Given the size and complexity of the Harcros facility, this project required a holistic approach to commercial security design, one that integrated physical security, communications, and IT infrastructure into a single cohesive solution.
TSI worked closely with Harcros during the design phase to define the full scope of the project. This included conducting on-site assessments of all buildings, identifying critical areas that required surveillance coverage, and determining optimal locations for cameras, network equipment, and notification devices.
Signal coverage was a major consideration due to the campus layout. The team needed to ensure that emergency notifications and paging could be heard clearly across production areas, warehouses, offices, and outdoor spaces. At the same time, surveillance camera placement had to balance security needs with operational workflows, ensuring that critical zones such as entrances, loading docks, storage areas, and high-risk locations were properly monitored.
A key component of the design was the decision to migrate to a fiber optic network. Fiber provided the bandwidth and reliability needed to support high-definition video streaming and real-time emergency communications across long distances without signal degradation. This network became the backbone of Harcros’ new commercial security system.
Installing a large-scale commercial security system within an active chemical manufacturing environment presented unique challenges. Harcros is a fully operational facility, and production could not be disrupted during the installation process. Safety was also a top priority, given the nature of the materials handled on site.
TSI coordinated closely with Harcros’ operations and safety teams to schedule work during optimal hours and minimize interference with daily activities. This required careful planning, phased installations, and strict adherence to safety protocols.
The installation included:
Converting the legacy alarm system into a digital, network-based emergency notification and paging system.
Retrofitting existing surveillance infrastructure with Avigilon high-definition IP cameras.
Deploying fiber optic cabling across the campus to interconnect all buildings.
Integrating the new systems into a centralized monitoring platform.
By leveraging IP-based technology, Harcros gained a more flexible and intelligent commercial security system. The new platform allows for real-time monitoring, centralized control, and remote access, enabling security personnel to respond quickly and effectively to incidents.
The completed project delivered a modern commercial security solution that significantly enhanced safety, communication, and operational visibility across the Harcros campus. Some of the key benefits included:
Improved Emergency Communication
The digital notification and paging system ensures that emergency messages can be broadcast instantly across the entire campus. This is especially critical in industrial environments where rapid communication can help prevent injuries and reduce risk during emergencies.
Enhanced Surveillance Capabilities
Upgrading to Avigilon high-definition IP cameras provided Harcros with clearer images, better coverage, and advanced video analytics. This enables security teams to identify incidents faster, investigate events more effectively, and maintain a safer environment for employees and visitors.
Scalable Infrastructure
The fiber optic network supports current needs while allowing for future expansion. As Harcros continues to grow, new cameras, buildings, or communication devices can be added without overhauling the entire system.
Centralized Monitoring and Control
All systems are now managed from a centralized platform, giving security personnel real-time visibility into campus operations. This streamlined approach reduces response times and improves overall situational awareness.
To ensure long-term reliability, Harcros maintains an ongoing support agreement with TSI Global. As part of this commercial security maintenance program, TSI performs regular system testing, preventive maintenance, and equipment inspections on a monthly basis.
This proactive approach allows potential issues to be identified and resolved before they become critical problems. Defective devices are repaired or replaced as needed, ensuring that Harcros’ security systems remain fully operational and compliant with safety requirements.
Through strategic planning, advanced technology, and expert implementation, TSI Global delivered a comprehensive commercial security solution for Harcros Chemicals that transformed an outdated infrastructure into a modern, digital, and highly reliable system. By integrating emergency notification, paging, high-definition surveillance, and fiber optic networking, Harcros now benefits from improved safety, enhanced operational awareness, and a future-proof security platform.
This project highlights the importance of investing in commercial security systems that not only protect physical assets but also support business continuity, employee safety, and long-term growth. For organizations operating large, complex facilities, a well-designed commercial security strategy is not just a safeguard, it is a critical business asset.
